DO I HAVE TO BE GOOD AT ART TO DO ART THERAPY?
Absolutely, not! Sometimes I find those who are less artistically inclined can have an advantage because the expression may come out more genuine and from the heart, rather than trying to make a picture that “looks good”.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF ART THERAPY?
Art Therapy can increase self-awareness, decrease stress and anxiety, heal traumas, and provide a safe space to express feelings through art materials.
DO I NEED A SPECIFIC PROBLEM TO WORK ON?
Although I find setting goals important, you don’t need to come in with something specific. Your goal can be more general such as, “releasing pent up energy”, “slowing down and being mindful”, or “making time for art and healthy communication”.
WHAT ARE YOUR COVID-19 PROTOCOLS IF I BOOK AN IN-PERSON SESSION?
If you are symptom free and haven’t left the country in the past 2 weeks, we can book an in-person session. I will provide paper and worksheets (if applicable) and I ask that you please provide your own art materials. We will practice frequent sanitizing and either keep our distance or wear masks, whichever is more comfortable for you.
HOW YOUNG DO YOU WORK WITH?
I have worked with as young as 4 years old in person and 7 years old online. I find it more beneficial for children younger than 7 to meet in person, instead of trying to reach them over a computer screen.
CAN THE SESSION BE COVERED BY INSURANCE?
Generally at this time, Art Therapy is not covered under standard insurance policies, however, if your child has been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Art Therapy is eligible to be 100% covered by the Ministry of Children and Family Development once set up with your plan.
